Domain name issue

One of my domain names that I registered through Micfo several years ago recently stopped working. Now I get some web page that looks like it is from Enom that has an email link at the bottom where I can email "info@whois-help.info" with a subject line of "Inquiring about the domain... with status Extended RGP". At first I thought the domain registration had expired, but the whois entry shows that it is registered to Micfo and doesn't expire until Dec 2008. But the nameserver settings are "dns1.name-services.com" instead of "ns1.micfo.com" like they should be.

I've had an open ticket with Micfo support for several days now and I am now attempting to transfer this domain to another registrar (so I can edit the nameserver settings myself) and so I have requested a transfer authorization code. But the latest reply from support is: "Currently we are facing some issues with the ENOM. We will send you the authorization code once this is resolved."

Have any of you had similar issues with domain names registered through Micfo (and Enom, I assume)?

I've registered domains with Micfo and have received authorization codes when requested transfer. However that was about 2 months ago. I'm not sure what events may have occurred since.

Sounds a bit scary though.

Update --

The Micfo billing dept finally informed me that my domain registration expired in Dec of 2007 due to a "technical error." I paid the renew fee one month before the expiration date so it was not an error on my part. I was also informed that there is a $165 fee to recover the domain from "redemption status."

I think Micfo should pay the $165 fee since it was their error. But I will be pleasantly surprised if they do!

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Yes - I feel your pain.

I registered two domains through Micfo which I have lost control/ownership of.
www.intervacs.com
www.homebasehols.com

The two domains are still registered to enom/micfo when i do a whois but I have been told the domains are lost - same excuse was given that they missed the renewal date.

Problem is I registered the domains new in Jan 2007 for 2 years.
The domains were working ok until around October 2008.. then suddenly someone else's page came up when i visited those domains mentioned above. I asked Micfo to fix the problem - but no resolution - they said they could buy me 2 new domains -
I assumed this was a mistake - asked for the issue to be forwarded to management - Still waiting 6-7 months later.

Why am I still with Micfo?
I have had a great experience with Micfo until the last year - so still hoping they will sort things out

What you really need to do is complain to ENOM as micfo is a reseller of them. Explain to ENOM your problem and show them proof of when you paid for the domain.

If push comes to shove, you could also contact ICANN as they are the ones that also might be able to help you.

This is why I NEVER by a domain from a the web hosting company where my site is at or transfer my domains. You can have your domains at one place and have hosting at another and most people just don't understand that. They think that if they are moving to a new host that they have to move the domain there too and that is just not true.

Because you haven't see the light as of yet when others seen it coming long ago. The forums here use to be very busy and now it is almost dead!! All of the pieces to the big picture have fallen into place. You just have to notice the pieces!!

I tried contacting ENOM by email about this and I got no response. Can you suggest a better way of contacting them?

Yes, I realize that. Now I will only get domains from a provider that provides a control panel so that I can control the domain settings myself. By the way, who do get your domains from?

I purchase most of my domains through Godaddy. I have heard things about them, but have been using them for 5+ years now and have not had any issue with them. Did John ever respond to your PM? If not, send him another PM....

I also suggest namecheap.com - highly rated (i myself use it) and folks at webhosting talk rave about it. Since godaddy's prices have sky rocketed in the past few years (and their additional services cost a lot of money) - i have opted to go for namecheap.com
