Thanks Russell...

dcabbarm

Linux is not Solaris... Where Unix only counted running and runnable processes,
"Linux also includes processes in uninterruptible sleep states (usually waiting for disk activity), which can lead to markedly different results if many processes are blocked in I/O due to a busy or stalled I/O system." (heavy Mysql for example)....

Also, "heavy" load on a system is different for each system. As far as web site response on the system, until it goes above 10-15 *MY* site is not affected.... not to say others they may have heavy Mysql are not affected...

I can state my experince here.. I have been a system admin for 15+ years, from SunOS to Solaris, to IRIX, CRAY, Linux, AIX and some others.... From SGI,CRAY, IBM and SUN supercomputers running full batch scheduling system to web and mail servers and personal workstations. I do know a little something about system load and performance and benchmarking.

I know for a fact that IO wait has a DIRECT effect on load.. Just loose a NFS drive and watch the load spike.....

Anyway, enough of this... RUsselll has said the systems well be rebuilt so that should solve any delay issues you are seeing in your web site.

See-ya

GhostRider,

When a process goes into IOWAIT, it does not consume CPU, it is not considered as RUNNABLE, unless it is waiting for a disk resource.
....
Now, if you are having Disk IO issues, that is a whole difference issue
Please read my message...

I did read your message... and they are related... and they have an effect on each other.. I didn't say that it didn't mean there were other issues... That may be... and they are handled different ways.. but it takes the whole picture to know where the bottleneck is and what will do the best action in order to fix it... You can't just say... but I think we have beat this one to death.. As with any OS there are differing options on admining a system... I don't think we will ever agree with each other 100%... I am just going on my years of experience as a systems admin... and what I have had to deal with and fix.....

Plus... it's Friday.. .not a day to think!!!! Get ready for the weekend!!! Yee Haa.....
