Extra Databases

Do you offer extra mysql databases after that ones that you initially provide in a hosting plan? If so, how much do those cost and are they a monthly fee or a one time thing?

Pre-estimate: Per month basis, and something like $5 for each extra database.
Extra bandwidth is $10 per month, so my estimate is based on that.

Yea that would be nice to have. I like to use databases for different projects that I want to work on and I don't like to feel that I am limited in any way.

Yes, but a limit teaches you to conserve the server's limited resources. A single database can become several databases simply by use a different prefix on the table names to represent a different "virtual database". The only reason you should need multiple databases is if you have multiple websites, if you are reseller, or if you are using web scripts that don't support table prefixes.

Now I like having multiple databases for testing incase the script messes up the rest of the DB up.

Good point that you made Bill... smaller databases could be combined into 1 larger one. However, if you have a portal system or a forum, it is best to keep them seperate so that they don't get messed up by anything for any reason. Plus, you can backup and restore without having to restore more than you need.

I believe 6 is good for starters, but I was just wondering if anytime in the future that I needed more, that I could get them or not.

We offer huge amount of bandwidth just on the actual plan, however to purchase more we are unable to charge less than $5 for 10GB of bandwidth. Other competitors are charging between US$ 2-4 per " each GB of bandwidth ". We have to cover some other charges, such as transaction fee and discount rate of our merchant:

US$ 1 per each transaction
4.99% discount rate.

US$ 5 -1 = US$ 4
4 - 4.99% = 0.20

US$ 4 - 0.20 = US$ 3.80 (that's what's left and thats what most of our competitors are charging for each 1GB of additional bandwidth.

Hope it makes sense.

Plus, we cannot offer unlimited MySQL databases. Mostly servers crash because a user or some are found to be monopolizing the resources available on server, such as MySQL and Apache.

MySQL cause a very high load if many connections are made to SQL server.

There's no additional charge for MySQL databses as long as you can provide a justification on the usage of extra MySQL database.

So in other words for each transaction you pay $1 plus about 5% of the total cost? Sounds kinda like paypal.

Ok, that is cool. Yea... I wouldn't want unlimited either as I understand the strain on the server. Only a couple more than what you already provide would do just fine.

I agree with LordFett, like maybe 2-3 per domain. Possibly on a need to have basis...

Free extra databases? Cool I like the sound of that, but as mentioned always condense your databases as much as possible to help Micfo out. The less they have to pay for server maintance, the more features and service we can have.

Well, this is how merchant account providers like PaySystems.com stay in business.

Best,
