Domain Transfer with Hosting plan - 06-23-2009, 07:06 PM

Hi, this is Serena! I am new to Micfo.

Just have a question, if you can answer.

When I try to order cPanel Hosting plan, select "I want to transfer my domain to Micfo International LLC" on the next page and enter my domain, it says "Available! Order Now". I am bit confused here. If I have already registered this domain somewhere else, why does it say "Available! Order Now"?

Thanks in advance!

Hello and Welcome to Micfo forums!

Yes, it is true. When you are transferring a domain name, you get "Available! Order Now". This is because it is never transferred to us and the fact is it is registered somewhere else. Hence, it is available for you to transfer it to us. Thus it says "Available! Order Now"

Hope that helps!

The domain transfer charges and domain registration charges are same. Here you need to tick the box to initiate the domain transfer process. "Available! Order Now" simply means that order the domain transfer now.

You can refer the following link to know the domain registration and domain transfer charges CLICK

Ah! That's nice. Thanks for your reply Matten and Matthew

Just clicked the idea behind it. Well, the statement "Available! Order Now" confused me.
Ok, how long for DNS to update? Will I get the site up as soon as I transfer the domain or does it need sometime?

Serena, it takes approximately 4 to 5 hours for the DNS to propagate. Your site would not be functional for this time. There would not be any downtime except for the time taken for the propagation.

Erm... that's not impressive. My site has high traffic and I don't really want it to be down. Can't this downtime be reduced? I heard something about changing "A" Records. What is it? Can it reduce my downtime? If yes, what do I need to do to change them?

Yes the downtime can surely be reduced in case you are an existing customer. Pointing the 'A' records to the server where the website is hosted/migrated and then updating the nameservers helps in reducing the downtime. But, if you are switching from one host to the other, then in anycase you have to change the DNS, pointing 'A' records too is an option, but there is a chance of mistakes i.e. if your previous host makes some mistake, then the website would surely go down for an unestimated time.
It also depends on the type of web hosting plan too, for example if you are migrating the website between one VPS plan to another, you won't face any downtime.

Matthew, I am sorry. Could you please elaborate what do you mean by mistakes. What can be the mistakes made by the ex-hosting provider?

Well, it is rare that a hosting company makes any mistake. However, yes, if it doesn't want you to take away the hosting then it might not provide you the details you need to transfer the data or domains.

Some of the companies do this so that they do not loose their customers However, Micfo does not believe in these kind of techniques to retain customers and hence if customer decides to quit the services for any reason, we provide all the information customer needs to move to another hosting company

Instead of using these techniques to retain customers, Micfo believes in providing excellent quality services with 24x7 quality support to all it's customers. Also, Micfo has always believed in quality services and hence we use only Branded hardware for all the servers. We at Micfo, try to understand requirements of our customers and also understand the responsibility we have as a web hosting provider

That's true Garry. Every hosting company or the registrar should provide complete freedom to their clients. One needs to empower the customers to enjoy your services at the fullest.

Well, I do not think that it is possible for a hosting company to offer complete freedom to its clients. If it starts offering complete freedom to its clients then it could spoil and reduce the standard of the hosting company. There need to be certain restrictions on clients to maintain this standard.

Yes, certain restrictions have to be there in order to maintain the quality and standards of the hosting services.

However, Micfo.com does not believe in using techniques such as making it difficult for customers to transfer domain or data to other hosting companies.

We believe in providing honest and truthful hosting services with good quality services which is important to retain customers. Also, as we believe in long term relationships, we also offer discounts and deals to customers which depends on the billing cycle they choose for the hosting package.

This is a good point raised, complete freedom is what everyone expects, but practically it isn't possible on shared packages as the misuse can affect others customers hosted on the same server. One can opt. for dedicated servers for satisfying this requirement. You can have complete freedom with a dedicated sever, you would have full control over the server, which would enable you to install applications, softwares etc of your choice.
We offer range of different dedicated servers in US and UK.We also offer customization on our dedicated server plans.
