When renting a movie...

When you rent a movie is it usually a "New Release" or is it an older movie that is cheaper to rent?

My parents rent movies all the time but they get the weirdest things. My step dad is usually the one who gets the movies and they are things that I have never even heard of. But sometimes they are good ones that are new releases.

What would you think of a video rental place that only had new releases? Like maybe they would keep the movie for 3 months or so and then after the 3 months people could buy the used video (at a discount) from the movie store.

Cheaper to rent older movies? Doesn't everyone use Netflix?

I don't rent movies anymore. If its something I like, I buy the DVD or if I can't wait for that I'll order it on In Demand or PPV, record on the TiVo and be done with it.
The TiVo has been hacked and upgraded from it's origional 12hour capacity to 250hours, lotsa movies in there.

Easy take out original drive, clone to new 160GB drive (using readily available utilities), add a second drive (mounting kits available) "bless the drive" to make it recognized by the system, a little voodoo to get it to recognize such high capacity drives and your done. Only took a couple of hours, next step is to add networking to it, the original (series1) units didn't have it but there are after market kits.

That's pretty cool Tom, too bad I don't have TV or a Tivo, that would be a fun project.
