some "new" furniture

this past friday night i met my mom for dinner and picked up some furniture from her. she has had these in storage for about 8 years and i was anxious to get my hands on them. it is a coffee table and 2 end tables that my dad bought in taipei in 1969 for $250. they are hand carved in teek wood (sp?). the coffee table has a large battle scene on the top and the end tables have a love story.

coffee table (minus the drawers):

i took some time sunday afternoon to start cleaning them up and polishing them. my mom said she accidentally broke the glass on the coffee table while they were loading it into her van. i think i am going to do some calling around and see where i could get some new glass cut for it.

im very happy to have it, and considering how old it is and where this stuff has been, it is in great shape. the coffee table is larger than the one we currently have, plus this has a more sentimental value for me, since i remember using it as a child.

I think those furnitures would fit nicely in my house. I'm not really a fan of antiques or furnitures made from dark wood but that's generally what my house is made of. :(

Wow, those are nice looking. I personally wouldn't even use them, I'd lock them in a bullet proof case

As for glass replacement, maybe get plexiglass(s/p?) I replaced the broken glass of our coffee table with plexiglass. Plexiglass is just as clear as glass, but AFAIK it's stronger so you aren't as likely to break it.

BTW, I had the glass custom cut, so measure out the peice(s) you want. You probably won't find pre-cut.

thanks all...

when i have the glass cut i will take the coffee table into the shop since the glass sits in the top and not on it. i am just happy to have these, and despite the option of free hosting for life i think i may hang on to them.
