OSCommerce vs. ZenCart question

well a while ago I tried starting up an online shop for a local company here, and that fell through on the other end. however I am back up with a new project for an online store. I have been trying to read up and decide between oscommerce or zencart. I'm looking for an easily customized design and the ability to accept credit cards. I know both of those have authorize.net support. so the main thing I suppose is going to be how easy it is to customize and the user friendliness of the interface.

Also what other options besides authorize.net are out there for accepting creditcards?

I recommend Zen-Cart as the best shopping cart. It is secure and easily modified. You can change the overall look by CSS only or rewrite some of the files for a unique look.

OSCommerce is a good shopping cart but in my opinion is not as secure as Zen-Cart and is harder to customise. The Zen-Cart engine is OSCommerce with added features and a more friendly admin panel.

Depends on your need such as what sort of e-commerce executions your looking for, OSC has much better database design and codebase while zencart is easier than OSC for intstallation with better formatting and updating control.

I agree that zencart is much better for administration and end users, the last time I visted the OScommerce website the project felt abandoned, with no updates for months, which doesnt make install much confidence in you if you require support.

Both Oscommerce and zencart can be easily installed using fantastico script, I think this is great add-ons available through Fantastico -cPanel hosting.

One of best advantage of Fantastico would be that it is regularly updated so that users are assured that they would be able to get hold of the most recent patches and upgrades for shopping carts.

CubeCart is also a nice shopping cart software for e-commerce websites. It can be easily customized and can be installed from Fantastico.

CubeCart,OS Commerce and ZenCart all can be installed through Fantastico. The best part is that there are no additional charges to use any of the scripts available in Fantastico.

Hi folks,

What do you think about Magento?

Now days Magento is booming in eCommerce world. It's a great alternative of Zencart and Oscommerce. If you put all selection criteria next to each other, it will turn out that Magento development is a fully-fledged eCommerce platform which offers complete flexibility and control over the look, content, and functionality of an Online Store.
