Web based live support/chat for people who haven't signed up but are interested in learning more.

Sounds like a sales chat.

I see the benefits of using that. However, I also see the disadvantages. When a person e-mail directly, then it can be more easily entered into the knowledge base of this forum, for example.

I'm also against live tech support chat because I know how disattracting it is to be conversing with someone and try to work/solve the problem at the same time. It takes much more time that way.

Best,

Ok, I've never had my own running before - they just seemed nice on other sites. Nevermind then, thanks for sharing your experience with them.

How about a link to the support area from the control panel and the forum?

The links above <usercp><register><calendar><members><faq><search> <home>

Should look like this for registered and logged in members:

<home><usercp<calendar><members><faq><search>

<home> moved to the first one and the register link is disabled.

The home already is technically first. You can click on the logo to the left to get home.

Very true but it isn't labeled by an ALT tag or anything.

Well, that's the way vBulletin works. I'm very familiar with it so I'm used to it by now. Once the forum is upgraded to vBulletin 3.0.x, the "home" link won't exist anymore.

I will suggest to have a support section in the forum as many people including myself find it more easy to post in forums instead of submitting a ticket or sending e mails.

I think the Knowledge Base section is basically the place to ask questions.

The problem is, the staff don't get notified when you request for support on the forum unlike in the ticketing system. I was really a fan of forum support myself when I was with the old host but now I'm just used to logging into the Member Area and submitting my ticket. The system keeps track of all my previous tickets, very good for reference. It doesn't really bother me since they can always reply to my tickets in a matter of minutes.

To me, this forum is used as secondary support system where each member helps another whenever possible.

Perhaps links on top of the forum pointing to the knowledge base, ticket system, etc

Well, the problem with putting a link to the ticketing system is that the forum isn't connect to the rest of the site, so new users would get confused trying to enter in their forum username and password.
