Thanks for the help. Not sure about dedicated server though.
Good afternoon,
We switched from one of Micfo's shared servers to a dedicated server in October 2007 with the thought that a dedicated server would give us virtual 100% uptime. To be honest I don't know that I would make the same decision again. I would estimate probably 50 or more technical issues requiring intervention over the last 9 months, many creating significant downtime. Our primary web sites are e-commerce so downtime = lost sales and customers. I would recommend that if someone is not extremely knowledgable about linux, and all that has to do with server configuration, maintenance, and debugging, DON'T do it. Stick with the shared server.
In all fairness the support I have received using online chat has been very good, helpful, and most issues were resolved quickly. Special thanks to Bryan for todays herioc fix, and Peter, who I have dealt with many times in the past. Thanks to the rest of you guys there manning chat support as well. You are doing a difficult job.
Support ticket response has not been so good. Sometimes days go by before you hear anything. It seems chat is the way to go. My only suggestion would be to give more specifics, when possible, as to what fixed a problem so users like myself can become more self resourceful. Many of my resolution responses were things like "it's fixed now". Without having any idea what was "broken" in the first place.
So keep up the good work guys.
